When I started Heart Meter last July it was with the goal of donating video games to kids undergoing chemo. That’s a very specific use case. Although many of the deliveries I’ve made do go to oncology departments, I’ve also seen a need outside of that as well. One of my favorite examples is Safe Alliance.

Safe Alliance’s mission is to provide hope and healing for people in crisis; specifically, domestic violence situations. They do this with a huge selection of services such as: a 24 hour domestic violence / sexual assault help line, safety planning, counseling & therapy, and a safe shelter for families trying to escape a dangerous home.

Now for some scary stats as to why this is important:

• 1 in 4 women will be impacted by domestic violence during their life time
• 3 women are killed each day in the USA by their intimate partner
• More than 15 million children are exposed to domestic violence each year in the USA
• CMPD responded to more than 36,000 domestic violence related calls last year

Notice the last one? 36,000 calls in Charlotte. Many of the women staying at the shelter have children with them. I’ve been fortunate enough to support them with my June delivery. The delivery consisted of an Xbox 360, 2 controllers, and 8 games. Here are some pics from my delivery:
